Huge Thanks to You!
The Technology Together 2021 Conference is over for this year. What a great time it was! Amazing contributions from our speakers and staff. Special thanks to the amazing Mark MacKichan, Keynotes Damineh Akhavan and Reza Jooyandeh, to Satomi Hayashida for taking care of this website, and for everyone else who brought their energy and enthusiasm to the Zoom conference today. Thanks so much!
Post-COVID Portfolio Expectations
Where will you be at 11:30 on Wednesday, November 17, 2021?
Ning Zhang, an Employer Relations Specialist (ERS) with ISSofBC’s Job Quest program, will be joining the Panel 3 discussion on career portfolios. Ning is interested to gain employers’ insights on how they view candidates’ career portfolios which include such items as 1) an up-to-date resume, 2) cover letter, 3) license and/or accreditation documentation and 4) training certificates. This way you can understand employer’s expectation and benefit your employment preparation.
“I have noticed some new changes and trends in the job market and what employers are searching for since the beginning of COVID. I’m excited to join Panel 3 to hear employers’ insights on what they take into post-COVID consideration,” Ning says.
Will you be in the same panel as Ning? Or in another one?
Whatever you choose, see you at the conference tomorrow!
Congrats to our Keynote Damineh Akhavan!

On Saturday evening, Damineh received the Spirit of Ali award from the University of Victoria Gustavson School of Business. Looking forward to celebrating with you, Damineh! Congrats on this honour.

The Golden Details
Stories have that magical quality of including critical details often missing from straight-forward advice.
For anyone working hard on their career, advice can sometimes feel obvious, limiting and overly general. But listening to a story of someone who has achieved the same success you want might just give you a golden detail that makes all the difference.
We’ve seen this many times: stories land on us in different ways but they give us individual details that we need. Consider attending Freda’s 11:30 panel, “I invested in myself & here’s what happened” and Bita’s 12:00 panel, “Hired during the pandemic: stories of persistence and self-care,” particularly if you are looking for the golden detail that may have eluded you up to now.
The conference is getting very close. Hoping you are ready to receive your link and agenda by email so that you’re prepped for conference day on Nov. 17 at 10:00am EST. See you then!
Beyond Being “Nice”
Are Social Emotional Skills just about being “nice?” Will having these skills mean I always have to say yes to every request?
Never. Quite the opposite! They are much deeper and profound ways that people build trust in teams. Social and Emotional Skills help us to be our authentic selves in workplaces and to accept others as we collaborate.
Like someone in tech once said, “We’re not machines! Even though we work in a technical space, we have feelings and react like everyone else in any workplaces.”
This topic needs a lot more time than we have in the conference but the panel discussion will open your eyes to connecting with team mates and advancing in your career using skills you may have already learned.
CONFERENCE UPDATES
We’re so close to the conference now! Just a few days between now and Nov. 17. At VPL and ISSofBC, we’re super excited to open up the Zoom rooms and get conferencing.
